Context: The creator of the Gabou's Libs mod (700k+ downloads), Gabou, added a piece of malicious code to the mod that checked your hard drive and would then ban you from servers if you were running a pirated instance of Minecraft OR were playing in offline mode. Major bootlicker behavior and their mod is now banned from Modrinth, and hopefully from Curseforge soon. [Post that revealed this here](https://www.reddit.com/r/feedthebeast/comments/1w2ojoc/this_1m_downloads_mod_scans_your_hard_drive_for_a/) Then yesterday it came to light that the Vintage Story modder Maltiez, and more importantly **an employee at the team that makes the core game**, added code to a very widely used mod ConfigLib (655k+ downloads) that would scan through your downloaded mods and would crash your game if it deemed any of those mods as "cheating". [Post that revealed this here](https://www.reddit.com/r/VintageStory/comments/1w3tc5n/i_think_sneaking_impactful_code_into_a_mod_meant/) Bearing in mind that neither of the two examples ever stated that their mods did any of this, and they both have doubled down on their stance that they did nothing wrong, to my knowledge.
Minecraft's death system is absolute garbage, and though keeping your entire inventory isn't great, dropping it all on the ground in a giant cluster of items that despawns after only 5 minutes is worse
Funny but true, the people in charge of Minecraft back in the day would add something and if nobody liked it they’d remove it in the next update, now you have to have 6 months of meetings and a discussion and a full blown company wide kaizan before they’ll introduce a new inconsequential mob that changes nothing… hearing “a mob like the creeper would never be added these days” kinda killed my nostalgia
i second world building. ive created some of my favorite characters using minecraft as a base. it gives you both nothing and so much to work off of
Lemme get this straight You expect a random Minecraft server to be findable on the web out of the thousands (likely nearer millions tbh) of servers out there. Your threshold for proof is finding their names and builds. From a private server. Something doesn’t work right in your brain dawg, im just telling you now
